Import a Car from Japan to Cyprus

AJ AUTO GROUP helps you source a vehicle through Japanese auctions and dealer stock, then coordinates its journey to Cyprus. From private orders to dealer supply, we connect your requirements and budget with suitable options and guide you through approval, purchase, shipping and vehicle-specific import checks.

From your brief to delivery

  1. Define the right vehicle

Tell us your preferred make and model, budget, intended use and essential features. Year, fuel and transmission help narrow the search. Say whether you are buying privately or for a dealership, and whether your budget covers the full import journey.

  2. Search auctions and dealer stock

Our professional network in Japan gives access to auction channels and dealer inventories, not only Japanese brands. We discuss options against your brief rather than treating every listing as the right choice. Availability depends on the market when you search.

  3. Review information and approve

Where records are available, we help review auction and vehicle history, specifications, mileage concerns and damage indicators. Consider missing information when deciding. You approve the vehicle before purchase; we also check its applicable registration requirements and estimated import costs.

  4. Agree the deposit and purchase

A security deposit of approximately 15–20% is normally required before an approved bid is placed or suitable stock is secured. We discuss arrangements before proceeding. After purchase, remaining payment requirements depend on the customer or dealer agreement, not a universal schedule.

  5. Coordinate shipping and import

We coordinate shipping and customs, with RoRo or container options where appropriate. Arrival is not a guarantee of readiness for road use. Customs treatment, supporting documents and required inspection and registration steps are checked for the specific vehicle.

  6. Complete the journey and stay supported

We coordinate inspection, registration and delivery. Any commercial warranty depends on the vehicle, age, condition and agreed terms, discussed before purchase. After-sales support and warranty coordination remain available where applicable. No universal warranty duration or coverage applies; mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

Understand the costs before you commit

Request an itemised estimate: purchase price is not total import cost. The estimate covers relevant categories and known variables. Confirm the applicable treatment and agreed scope before purchase.

  • Vehicle and transport: the selected vehicle, shipping method and import arrangements affect your estimate. A previous delivery is not a quotation for your order.
  • Duty: treatment depends on vehicle category, origin and import procedure. Preferential treatment for eligible Japanese-origin vehicles requires the applicable origin conditions and evidence. Buying a vehicle in Japan does not itself prove Japanese preferential origin.
  • VAT: the standard Cyprus third-country import rate is currently 19%, subject to the applicable official treatment. Check the basis and treatment for the specific import rather than applying a percentage only to the advertised car price.
  • Inspection and registration: eligibility and costs are vehicle-specific. Age, category, technical specification and required approvals must be checked before purchase; right-hand drive alone does not establish eligibility.

Questions before you start

Do I need to find a car first?

No. Start with a model, a budget or the kind of vehicle you need. If you already have a listing, share it so we can discuss the available information and whether it fits your requirements.

Are all Japanese-market vehicles eligible for Cyprus registration?

No universal eligibility promise applies. Requirements depend on the specific vehicle. We check the relevant registration considerations before purchase; a Japanese listing or steering position is not approval to register.

Does every car bought in Japan qualify for preferential duty?

No. Place of purchase and preferential origin are different. Eligibility depends on satisfying the relevant origin rules and evidence requirements. Consult the official Customs references on this page for the applicable conditions.

Are the vehicles in your archive available to buy?

No. They are completed customer and partner-dealer deliveries. Use “Request a Similar Vehicle” to tell us which model inspired you; a new search will depend on your specification, budget and current sourcing options.

What should I send with my enquiry?

Send the model or vehicle type, budget and essential preferences. You can use the existing Contact flow to review your message before sending it through your chosen channel. There is no obligation to provide a phone number in the website’s initial enquiry form.

Tell us what you want to import

Share your model, budget and must-haves. We will discuss sourcing options and the checks, estimated costs and timing relevant to your vehicle.
